What is your educational and professional background?
I started undergrad at a community college, West Valley College, before completing my degree at Cal State University San Marcos in Social Science. Professional, up until this point I have worked with animals. I started as a horse-riding instructor and trail guide for 5 years before working at a dog daycare before the pandemic hit. During the pandemic I started as the Farm and Program Manager for a non-profit organization called Animal Assisted Happiness where we worked with farm animals and children with need.
Why did you choose USD? What made USD stand out in comparison to other schools with a similar program?
I chose USD because it had the most inviting staff and professors as well as the most well rounded program that I saw. I really liked the cohort model and having to work with others in your field. The international component was also a huge plus.
What do you hope to do after grad school?
I am hoping to be a school counselor in a high school or an admissions counselor at a university.
Are you currently working? If so, do you work full-time or part-time, and what do you do?
I am working part-time as a Graduate Assistant at the Undergraduate Admissions Office here at USD. I do several tasks to support the admissions counselors and operations department, the main one being giving information sessions to interested students and families in USD.
What are you most excited for as you begin your program?
I am most excited about the international component and getting started on the fieldwork.
What advice can you share with prospective applicants?
Connecting with current students and potential professors is so important when figuring out if a school is a good fit for you.
