Faculty Research Grants

Description

Faculty Research Grants (FRGs) are available through individual academic units. The decisions on when, how and under what circumstances the FRGs are allotted are made by the deans of the individual academic units and vary according to guidelines set by each dean. Please check with your respective dean to learn more about FRGs and the guidelines set for your College or school.

Complete the online Faculty Research Report form at the conclusion of the FRG or by November 1. Upon submission of the form, the report will be sent to the Provost's Office and to the appropriate dean's office. Please note: the online form will time-out and your submission may be lost. Consider writing your summary and description in another program, such as Notepad, before logging in and then copy and paste into the form. Do not copy and paste from Microsoft Word, as that appears to introduce special characters into the submission.

Enhanced Student-Faculty Interaction Fund

Description

The purpose of the Enhanced Student-Faculty Interaction (ESFI) Fund is to foster academic experiences among faculty and students in order to enrich academic life at USD. Grants are non-competitive and are made on a first-come, first-served basis. The academic nature of the project must be the central feature and the project must foster a closer intellectual interaction between faculty member(s) and student(s). Proposals for student interactions with multiple faculty members from several disciplines are particularly encouraged. To request funds, faculty will need to complete an online application, providing a description of the project and explanation of how it enhances student-faculty interaction beyond the classroom, rationale for its academic value, a requested amount, an explanation of costs, and the date(s) of the event/project.

Funding Availability

Applications will be open for Fall 2026 ESFI activities starting on August 1, 2026. Requests for Spring 2027 activities may be made starting December 1, 2026. To request funds, complete the online application. Applications must be submitted by the faculty who is leading the project/event and whom the ESFI award will be issued to.

Awards may run from a small amount (unspecified) to a maximum of $500 per semester. See latest ESFI guidelines (revised June 2025).

International Opportunities Grants for Faculty, Staff and Administrators

The International Advisory Council evaluates proposals on the strength of their connection to the international mission of the university and to the perceived benefit towards increasing the applicant's international understanding. See http://www.sandiego.edu/international/faculty-and-staff/#tab-panel1.
