Resilience
An Unprecedented Year
“I am both proud and humbled by how Toreros from around the world have come together in 2020 in innovative and inspiring ways to do what they do best — confront humanity’s urgent challenges as only Toreros can. It’s why we call our Torero family ‘Changemakers.’” — President James T. Harris, DEd
“We all take great pride in the high-impact teaching and learning practices that are the hallmark of a USD education. I am grateful to our faculty, who have worked tirelessly to support our students during an exceptionally challenging year.”

Anna Salvestrin
“Over the 2020 intersession, I had the amazing experience of taking the World Religions course in Auckland, New Zealand with Dr. Kate DeConinck. With a class of approximately 20 students, we studied the five largest world religions along with the indigenous Māori culture of New Zealand. Dr. DeConinck exceeded all expectations by integrating the classwork with visits around the city. Dr. DeConinck provided a once-in-a-lifetime experience by giving us the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the study and experience of religion while abroad.”

“As of January 2020, I graduated from the University of San Diego School of Business with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing. My time at USD was nothing short of an incredible experience and I am extremely thankful for my family, friends and the faculty of USD that have supported me along this journey. I have transformed both professionally and personally, and I am excited to embrace what is next.”
Ashley Barton
The inaugural director of USD’s Black Student Resource Commons (BSRC), Ashley Barton has done great things for the university’s Black community since 2013. "The BSRC's biggest success has been supporting Black student retention at USD by having specific programming, events and services that enhance the Black student experience,” she says. “We are creating a more inclusive, supportive space for our Black students.”
