Celebrating Life's Joys on the Camino de Santiago
The Camino de Santiago is thought of as a spiritual journey. One where an individual has time to contemplate, reflect, and pray as they challenge themselves physically. A very serious endeavor indeed. While that is true, what is often not spoken of is the joy of it all and the opportunity to be grateful for all of God’s gifts in our lives.

On this particular Camino, we have a diverse group of USD alumni and friends ranging in ages from 15 to 75 and each has their own reason for taking this journey. One of the most joyful elements of this group is the celebratory nature of our time together. One couple is celebrating their honeymoon, another 42 years of marriage. Along the way, we will be celebrating a quinceañera, an ordination anniversary, milestone birthdays, and even Father’s Day.
In my daily life, I often forget to pause to celebrate the special moments of life, both big and small. On this Camino, I am reminded to take more time to celebrate and appreciate the joy of living.
