Bob MacKay '20 MS-CMR

United States Army 1981-2007

After serving in the United States Army as a Colonel, Bob MacKay decided to return to graduate school to participate in our MS in Conflict Management & Resolution program. Now working with the Institute for Defense Analyses, Bob's work requires him to be surrounded by conflict. “I took one particular framework I learned called the 'Pillars Method' and applied it to the team I work with in Mali. When I returned to class in San Diego, I was able to share my experiences applying the framework, showing my classmates the way in which something we learned in class was used in a real conflict situation."

How the Kroc School Advanced My Path to Service

"When I found the Kroc School, I was drawn to an institution that talked of service, change, and dedication to something larger than the self. At 30 years old, these had become clear and concrete principles on which I wanted to build my career. It was, admittedly, a rather abrupt career change. But when I look back at why I did it, I did it for the same reason I had gone to the Naval Academy: I wanted to be of service."
