Dr. Patricia Márquez is a Professor of Management and Social Innovation with a joint appointment between the Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies and the Knauss School of Business. From 2014 to 2023, Márquez successfully served as Dean of the Kroc School launching various masters’ programs in peacebuilding, humanitarian aid and social change, attracting new faculty, and significantly increasing the number of graduate students. Before becoming dean, she was the faculty founder of the Center for Peace and Commerce, the Social Innovation Challenge (now the Fowler Global Social Innovation Challenge) and the USD Changemaker Hub. While Dean, Márquez was also Associate Provost of Academic Planning and Innovation (2020-23) leading the development of the USD Academic Plan.

Dr. Márquez first joined USD in 2007. As a faculty of the Knauss School of Business she taught undergraduate and graduate courses in "Business and Society," "Global Social Entrepreneurship," and "Business and Social Innovation." She also taught courses field-based courses in Ghana, Uganda and Brazil. Her research has focused on the intersection of business and social value creation, with an emphasis on poverty alleviation through market mechanisms. Previous to joining USD, Dr. Márquez was a professor and dean at IESA, a School of Management in Caracas, Venezuela.

In 2016, Dr. Márquez received the San Diego Business Journal Women Who Mean Business Award. In 2017 she received the San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary Club Peacemaker of the Year Award and in 2018 the Rotary, District 5340 Pathways to Peace Award and Paul Harris Fellowship.

Dr. Márquez has a BA from Bowdoin College (magna cum laude), and received her MA and PhD in socio-cultural anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley.
