Health and Safety
USD COVID-19 protocols as follows:
- As of June 1, 2023, COVID-19 vaccines moved from mandatory to strongly recommended
- Some clinical areas may still require updated vaccination status per regulatory standards
- Faculty may continue to require face coverings in classrooms and labs at their discretion
- In alignment with California OSHA guidelines, employees are still required to report if they have contracted COVID-19 to Human Resources by filling out this survey.
- Continue to provide reasonable accommodations for higher risk students and employees
In the event we experience a significant resurgence of COVID-19 infections or other related event, we may choose to implement any or all of the following health and safety measures:
- Require face coverings in all classes, labs and libraries.
- Resume contact tracing.
- Require face coverings on campus at all times.
- Resume surveillance testing.
- Cancel indoor rentals of non-university events.
While we hope that we are not put in a position to have to reinstate these more stringent measures, we are prepared to do what it takes to create a safer and healthier environment for our campus community.
Residents diagnosed with COVID-19 are permitted stay in their room while recovering from illness. Residential Life will manage temporary alternative housing consideration for impacted roommates on an as needed basis (i.e. when roommates are immunocompromised or in other wellness related situations).
- Students can contact the Student Health Center or message a provider through their MyWellness Portal.
- Parents and Families should direct questions to the office of Parent and Family Relations at 619-260-4808 or visit https://www.sandiego.edu/parents.
- Employees should direct additional questions to Human Resources.
COVID-19 Safety Measures
The University no longer requires COVID vaccinations but does strongly recommend that our community members stay up to date with the latest vaccination recommendations.
Currently the Student Health Center does not have COVID vaccines available because the distribution of the vaccine is still determined by the state government. In California, most pharmacies have the vaccine. To find COVID vaccines near you, please go to Vaccines.gov.
Self COVID tests are available at the Torero Bookstore. If you are ill and schedule an appointment at the health center, testing can also be performed during your appointment. For off-campus testing, please visit the county’s website for options.
- USD is not requiring face coverings for students; however, the university continues to support and strongly encourage campus community members to wear face coverings when they feel the need to do so.
- Faculty may require face coverings to be worn in academic settings.
