SAN DIEGO (January 27, 2024) - University of San Diego (USD) School of Law Alumnus John D. Alessio ’91 (BS) ’94 (JD) has been elected managing partner at Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP for a third term. He has been a Managing Partner since January 1, 2018. His new term began January 1, 2024 and will last for three years.
In his almost 16 years with Procopio, Alessio has focused on complex class action, business and employment litigation with particular experience in trade secret misappropriation, unfair competition, real estate, banking and lending, shareholder and contractual disputes to include cross-border issues. He has achieved great results for clients of all sizes in civil trials, arbitrations and mediations.

Procopio has thrived under Alessios’s leadership, navigating the firm through the COVID-19 pandemic, during which the firm not only maintained its high level of client service but also saw financial and geographic growth. Procopio opened an Orange County office in the spring of 2020, just weeks into the pandemic, and that office now boasts about two dozen attorneys. In early 2022, Procopio opened its first East Coast office in Washington, D.C., which also continues to grow. These offices joined existing ones in downtown San Diego, Del Mar Heights, Silicon Valley, Scottsdale, and Las Vegas.
External recognition for Procopio has grown during Alesssio’s tenure as Managing Partner. The number of legal practices recognized by Best Law Firms® (formerly affiliated with U.S. News) has nearly doubled. Throughout his tenure the firm has been listed among the top law firms for diversity by Law360 and American Lawyer magazine, and for the last three years has achieved the top honor from Diversity Lab, Mansfield Plus certification.
A fourth-generation San Diegan, Alessio contributes to his community as Advisory Director for the 2024 San Diego-Tijuana World Design Capital, Smart Border Coalition and is active in many philanthropies. He has been recognized by the San Diego Business Journal for seven straight years as an SD 500 Most Influential Business Leader in San Diego and named to the Super Lawyers® list since 2012 and the Best Lawyers® list since 2016.
