Associate Professor Matt Rich's New Mural: Ampersand

Associate Professor of Visual Arts Matt Rich, MFA, has just unveiled a new mural, Ampersand, located at 7744 Fay Avenue in downtown La Jolla, San Diego. Drawing from his style of mixed media, Rich conveys openness, continuation and exchange that is created through the “&” symbol. This mural, like many of his other works, is a collage made with a range of materials including painted and cut canvas, crushed aluminum foil, as well as pastels, gouache and spray paint on cut paper.
Ampersand was commissioned by the Murals of La Jolla, an organization that has been installing murals by nationally and internationally recognized artists since 2010. More information on Murals of La Jolla can be found on their website. Murals of La Jolla holds free guided and self-guided tours of the murals on view.
Additional information about Rich’s piece, Ampersand, can be found at Murals of La Jolla: Matt Rich.
On Thursday, November 6, 2025, Matt Rich will give an artist talk at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library. A reception will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by a lecture by Matt Rich about his career, projects and Ampersand at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the talk can be purchased on the Athenaeum’s website.
