At the University of San Diego, we pride ourselves on fostering leaders who make an impact in their communities and industries. Emiliano Gallego, ’00 and ’11, exemplifies this spirit of innovation and leadership. Today, Emiliano is the CEO of Pagasa, a thriving pasta and cookie company based in Tijuana, Mexico, that has become a household name for quality and tradition.

Building on a Strong Foundation
Emiliano was the very first student to graduate with a degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering at USD.  His education provided him with the skills to analyze complex systems and optimize processes, a foundation that he has carried into his leadership at Pagasa.

“My time at USD was transformative,” Emiliano reflects. “The rigorous academic environment and supportive community prepared me to tackle challenges with creativity and resilience.”

A Vision for Growth and Sustainability
Pagasa was founded in 1942 by Emiliano’s great grandfather. Under Emiliano’s leadership, the company has flourished, automating processes that had previously been manual, and expanding its product lines while maintaining a commitment to quality. Emiliano has prioritized innovation, implementing state-of-the-art manufacturing processes to ensure efficiency and sustainability.

“As engineers, we’re taught to think about systems holistically,” Emiliano explains. “At Pagasa, that means not just focusing on the end product, but considering how we source ingredients, reduce waste, and create value for our customers.”

This forward-thinking approach has earned Pagasa recognition as a leader in the food industry, with Emiliano’s vision driving the company to new heights.

Giving Back to the Community
Beyond his professional achievements, Emiliano is committed to giving back. He is involved as a donor and mentor to USD and to CETYS University, supporting students and programs related to entrepreneurship and innovation. “One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is seeing the positive impact we can have on the lives of others,” Emiliano shares. “Whether it’s through job creation or community outreach, I want Pagasa to be a force for good.”

Inspiring the Next Generation
Emiliano’s journey is a testament to the power of determination, education, and a clear vision. “My advice to students is simple: Never stop learning and always seek ways to make a positive impact,” he says. “The world needs leaders who can think critically and act compassionately.”

Celebrating Success
We are proud to celebrate Emiliano Gallego as an outstanding member of the USD alumni community. His achievements exemplify the university’s mission of preparing changemakers who enrich the world.
