Scholarship Appreciation Luncheon Celebrates Bright Futures for USD Students

Philanthropy is a gesture of generosity, gratitude and respect. It opens doors, supports futures and empowers individuals and communities to make a positive impact.

The University of San Diego (USD) hosted its 34th Scholarship Appreciation Luncheon on Tuesday afternoon in the Hahn University Forums. More than 200 people attended the annual event held to unite scholarship benefactors and student scholarship recipients in celebration of their unwavering commitment to an USD education. 

USD alumnus James “Jamey” D. Power IV ’85 spoke about the importance of giving students the opportunity to create an impact. 

“It’s about rewarding success, accomplishments and the special talents of students and opening doors for opportunities by relieving financial stress,” said Power, a former USD board of trustees member, whose family established the Power Family Endowed Scholarship. “Students, you are why we are here today and we are proud of you.”

USD psychology major Corinne Stackpole, this year’s recipient of the Power Family Endowed Scholarship, spoke about her time as USD and how the scholarship has positively impacted her life as a Torero.  

“It has been the cornerstone of my experience,” said Stackpole. “I have been able to embrace the holistic education that USD prides itself on. You [all] are giving students tools they need to make an impact on campus and in the world.”
