Praying For Our Local Muslim Community: A Letter from USD President James T. Harris
Dear Campus Community,
Like many of you, I was heartbroken by the horrific violence at the San Diego Islamic Center yesterday. We pray for the victims, our San Diego Muslim community and all those impacted by this senseless tragedy.
USD has enjoyed a long and fruitful partnership with the Islamic Center. For years, our students have visited the Mosque to learn about the beauty of Islam. We have welcomed leaders from their community to our campus numerous times for events such as the All Faith Service and the September 11th Interfaith Prayer for Peace. The closeness of these connections make yesterday’s violence especially painful.
In addition to joining me in prayer and solidarity, I ask that we all recommit ourselves to working together to create a more peaceful world where all forms of hatred and violence have no place. I am proud of the many ways our community shows up for each other, bringing compassion and thoughtful dialogue so desperately needed in our society. On our campus and throughout our city, we are blessed to have many Muslims, Jews, Christians and people of all faiths, who foster peace, work for justice and lead with love.
Please be reminded of the many resources available on our campus for any member of the USD community:
