Adventures in Qualcomm

Ever wondered what it actually takes to run cloud infrastructure at enterprise scale—and what skills separate someone who uses the cloud from someone who designs it?

In this seminar, you’ll get a behind‑the‑scenes look at how Qualcomm’s IT organization designed and built a production‑grade enterprise multi‑cloud platform, spanning AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure, and supporting thousands of engineers across the company. This isn’t a “how to deploy an app” walkthrough. Instead, it’s a real‑world case study focused on the architectural decisions, trade‑offs, and constraints that show up when cloud systems have to work at scale, securely, and reliably.

You’ll follow Qualcomm’s journey as IT architects tackled questions like:

  • How do you structure cloud environments for thousands of users across teams and regions?
  • How do identity, access control, and security policies scale without slowing engineers down?
  • How do networking and guardrails get designed so teams can move fast without breaking things?

The session is framed as a challenge‑and‑response case study, walking through real problems encountered in production and the architectural choices made to solve them. Along the way, you’ll see what cloud and enterprise IT architects actually work on day to day—and how those roles differ from traditional software engineering paths.

You’ll also learn:

  • What “enterprise multi‑cloud” really means beyond the buzzwords
  • Why IAM, organizational policies, and networking often matter more than any single cloud service
  • How large IT teams balance security, scale, and developer productivity
  • Which technical and systems skills are most valuable if you’re interested in cloud architecture, enterprise IT, or platform engineering

If you’re curious about how large‑scale systems work in the real world—and what it takes to design and operate them—this session will give you a grounded, experience‑driven view of Enterprise IT and Cloud Architecture, along with a clearer sense of the skills that matter most as you plan your career.
