Presidential Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Awards

The University of San Diego Presidential Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Awards recognize the accomplishments of faculty, employees, students, and departments/units/organizations, whose contributions have promoted and enhanced the diversity of our community and elevated inclusive excellence, diversity, equity, and social justice as important priorities of the University.

Award Categories

This award is given on an annual basis in the following categories:

Areas of achievement to consider when nominating individuals and/or departments:

Activities that document success in the recruitment, retention, and professional development of individuals who increase the diversity of our faculty or staff

Evidence of successful use of teaching pedagogy, student engagement, and exemplary scholarship that addresses the challenging issues of inclusion, equity, and social justice

Activities that document success to the attraction and/or recruitment of students who increase the diversity of our schools, or to help ensure the success of those students

Activities that lead to the creation of leadership teams and organizations that promote a diverse and inclusive culture

Sponsorship or active promotion of programs, initiatives, or projects in the area of diversity, equity, and inclusion

Demonstrated sustained support for advancing diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion

Served as a catalyst for change in the areas of diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion

Collaboration with campus or community groups in the creation, sponsorship, and implementation of programs, initiatives, or projects in the area of diversity and inclusion

Established policies and procedures that recognize and celebrate exemplary individual and team behaviors that promote diversity and inclusion

Demonstration of a sustained commitment to the values of diversity, inclusion, and multiculturalism by documented efforts that exceed the routine expectations of one’s position description

Evidence of documented exceptional efforts to promote a culture and university environment that fosters belonging, respect and value for all

Additional Information

The Awards Selection Committee will recommend up to four (4) award recipients per year, one for faculty, employee, student, and department/unit/organization. Award recipients will be honored during the University’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative address or another appropriate occasion. Their names will be added to an awards plaque, which will be posted in the Center for Inclusion and Diversity (CID). Each Presidential Diversity Award recipient receives a framed certificate plus a monetary award. Award recipients will also be recognized in a University publication.
