The Payroll Department hours are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday – Friday.

Payroll is located in Maher Hall, Room 112.
There are two payrolls: a bi-weekly and a monthly.
- Bi-weekly employees are paid every other Friday.
- Monthly employees are paid on the 26th of the month.
All paychecks will be mailed to the mailing address on file two days prior to payday.
If you lose or misplace your paycheck then you will need to stop by the Payroll Department located in Maher Hall 112 and complete a Stop Payment Request Form (not available online). The Payroll Department will process the stop payment and reissue a new check. This process can take up to 3 to 5 days.
Direct Deposit provides the convenience of having your paycheck electronically deposited into the financial institution account(s) of your choice. You can set up more than one bank account.
Complete the Direct Deposit form (PDF) and attach a voided check(s). Then forward to the Payroll Department in Maher 112. Direct Deposits must go through a pre-note process which means you will receive a live check until the account has been verified through the pre-note process. This could take up to two pay periods.
This 9-digit number can be found at the bottom left-hand corner of your personal checks. It is the first set of numbers between the first two colons. The number identifies the banking institution associated with your account number.
Complete the Direct Deposit form (PDF) by marking the box as add, change or cancel and attach a voided check(s) if you are adding an account(s). Then forward to the Payroll Department at Maher Hall 112. Any new Direct Deposit must go through a pre-note process which means you will receive a live check until the account has been verified through the pre-note process. This could take up to two pay periods.
Overtime is paid at one and one half times the regular rate of pay when a non-exempt employee works more than eight hours in a workday or 40 hours in a week or up to eight hours on the 7th consecutive day of the workweek. Double-time is paid at two times the regular rate of pay when a non-exempt employee works more than 12 hours in a workday or hours beyond eight on the 7th consecutive day of the workweek.
USD's workweek begins with Monday and ends on Sunday.
If you need a replacement copy of your W2 form then you will need to stop by the Payroll Office located in Maher Hall 112 and complete a Request for a Copy of W2 form (PDF), or you can email the Payroll Department at payroll@sandiego.edu with your name, address, and last 4 digits of your social security number. This process can take up to 48 hours.
Employee Self Service allows you to view and print your online pay stubs. Also, through Employee Self Service, you have access to update your direct deposit, W-4 and/or address information*.
*Please note that Student employees do not have access to update their address through Employee Self Service and should submit address changes directly to the Payroll department.

To claim exempt from federal or state income tax means that you are claiming that you will not owe income taxes for the current calendar year. The exemption for federal and state withholding is only valid for one calendar year at a time and expires around February 15th of the next calendar year.
