Socially Responsible Investing Task Force

The Socially Responsible Investing Task Force (SRITF) was created by the Board of Trustees and the President to provide a framework for consideration of environmental, social, and governance issues (broadly known as ESG) that arise in the management of the investments in the University’s long-term investment pool.

The SRITF will make non-binding recommendations to the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees for their approval.

This landmark decision by the University of San Diego Board of Trustees aligns the investment of the endowment assets with the University’s vision to set the standard for an engaged, contemporary Catholic university where innovative Changemakers confront humanity’s urgent challenges. While the university has proactively taken steps to avoid new investments in fossil fuels for many years now, officially approving these policy changes is a significant expression of the alignment of the values of our institution and demonstrates clearly our commitment to our planet.
―Donald Knauss USD Board of Trustees Chair
The Socially Responsible Investing Task Force carefully considered the concerns of USD’s community members along with the ethical and fiduciary responsibilities of the Investment Committee and the Board. Ultimately, working together allowed us to reach a set of unanimous recommendations that each stakeholder group was proud to support.
