
On May 2, 2022, Alex Calero was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to serve as a Judge in the San Diego County Superior Court.
Since 2005, Calero has worked as a senior litigator in the enforcement division of the California Department of Financial protection and Innovation (formerly Department of Business Oversight). While working at DFPI, Calero has practiced before state administrative, civil, and criminal trial courts.
While attending USD, he served as an intern for the Center for Public Interest Law where he reported on the California Board of Optometry, Department of Real Estate, and the California Athletic Commission. Calero also worked as a legislative aide for Assemblymember Bill Leonard on issues of public safety, natural resources, and banking and finance. He has served as a gubernatorial appointee on the Dental Hygiene Committee of California and the California Board of Psychology.
Calero has been published in the McNair Research Journal and the California Regulatory Law Reporter. In 2009, Calero was a recipient of the San Diego Daily Transcript Young Attorneys Award. In 2021, Calero won the 2021 Service Award for Service by a Public Attorney.
