Faculty Mentor Award

Nomination deadline is Monday, April 13, 2026.

The College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Mentor Award celebrates and honors the dedication and commitment of mentoring faculty colleagues. Mentoring in the College of Arts and Sciences is a valued practice that is provided to other faculty as they advance in their career.

Eligibility

Tenured faculty members who have successfully mentored a colleague for at least three years are eligible and can be nominated by their mentee or chair.

How to Nominate

The nominator is responsible for writing a formal nomination letter and collecting materials that are submitted to the review committee.

Nominations should include the following:

  1. A two- to three-page nomination letter submitted describing the nominee’s mentorship activities, evidence of professional development related to mentoring faculty and their impact on their mentee and other faculty;
  2. Curriculum vitae or resume of nominee; and
  3. Letter of support from one or more mentees.

Achievements and activities that may be highlighted in the nomination:

  • Effective mentoring activities that support the professional development of the mentee.
  • Mentor has attended professional development workshops or completed the online course on effective mentoring through USD or other organizations.
  • Mentor demonstrates inclusive mentoring practices.
  • Mentor provides resources that are relevant to mentee.

Nominations will be reviewed by members of the Dean’s Advisory Council on Faculty Mentoring who will make a recommendation to the Dean.

Recipients of the College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Mentorship Award will be honored at the College End of the Year reception with a framed certificate and $1,000 for professional development. Nominations will remain active for three years unless withdrawn by the nominee. It is important to update the file each year that it is actively under review.
