Vidya Nadkarni is Professor of Political Science at the University of San Diego. Dr. Nadkarni’s research interests are in the areas of international relations and foreign policy, specifically on the foreign policies of resurgent (Russia), aspiring (India), and surging (China) global powers. She is the author of Strategic Partnerships in Asia: Balancing without Alliances (2010); co-editor of Emerging Powers in Comparative Perspective: The Political and Economic Rise of the BRIC Countries (2012) and Challenge and Change: Global Threats and the State in Twenty-First Century International Politics (2016); and co-author of The Foreign Policy of Russia: Changing Systems, Enduring Interests (7th edition, 2023). She has written extensively on the ways in which the foreign policies of China, India, and Russia deviate and intersect.

Nadkarni teaches the introductory course in international relations every Fall semester and also offers upper-division and graduate-level courses in international relations theory, American foreign policy, and Russian politics and foreign policy. She has taught courses in USD’s Honors Program and has taught in the preceptorial program for entering freshmen for almost two decades. She takes pride and joy in her role in mentoring students.
