Dr. Segui has been an instructor in the department since 2010. In previous years, he taught Introduction to Comparative Politics, Introduction to International Relations, Power and Justice, Asian American Politics, and Politics of the Philippines. This Spring (2026) Semester, Dr. Segui is teaching Introduction to American Politics and Introduction to the Politics of Race and Ethnicity. In addition to his teaching duties here at USD, Dr. Segui currently serves as the undergraduate advisor for the Political Science and International Relations Internship Program.
Scholarly Work
Dr. Segui's dissertation compared the political socialization of Filipino Americans and Vietnamese Americans; he also compared these groups based on whether the subjects were Asian-born or American-born. His research focused on identifying specific factors that could explain one’s disposition to be more liberal or conservative in their political views.
Areas of Interest
Dr. Segui has supervised independent student research projects in topics related to comparative politics and international relations involving Southeast Asia. He has also been teaching research seminars about 1) Genocide, the Khmer Rouge, and Cambodian Immigration to the United States, 2) Communism, Nationalism, and Vietnamese Immigration to the United States, 3) Democratization in the Post-Marcos Philippine Political System, and 4) Korean-American and African-American Relations.
