Biography

Katrina Cantu

Teaching Professor, Environmental and Ocean Sciences

Katrina Cantú is a teaching professor in the Department of Environmental and Ocean Sciences. Her professional focus has been using sedimentology to understand changes in coastal environments over the last 10 thousand years or so. When she isn't working she enjoys gardening, hiking and camping, and spending time with her family and pets.

Professional Experience

Katrina studied Earth Sciences at Scripps Institution of Oceanography where she received her BS and MS. During her time there she used sediment cores to reconstruct past environments, climate, and anthropogenic impacts on coastal environments during the Late Pleistocene and Holocene. Her research took her to Israel, Greece, and Puerto Rico to conduct field work and collaborate with local researchers. While studying at Scripps, Katrina taught a variety of courses in the Earth Sciences as well as Environmental Archaeology.
