Chemistry Learning Outcomes

World-class chemists start here

Chemistry at USD prepares the next generation of chemists to rise above. To learn the science of chemistry and then practice it.

Learning outcomes

  1. Foundational Knowledge. Demonstrate knowledge of the five principle disciplines: biochemistry, analytical, organic, inorganic and physical chemistry.
  2. Technical Skills. Demonstrate technical proficiency in modern laboratory skills, including instrumental and computational methods and proper laboratory safety protocols.
  3. Integration. Integrate chemical concepts and ideas with laboratory experiences and real-world scenarios.
  4. Scientific Method. Apply the scientific method to questions in chemistry: formulate hypotheses, propose and perform experiments, collect data, compile and interpret results, and draw reasonable and logical conclusions.
  5. Scientific Communication. Communicate scientific information effectively in both written and oral form.
