A relatively new and fast-growing discipline, Biomedical Ethics at USD prepares students of almost any major to pursue further academic work or careers in medicine, law, the health or life sciences, health policy and administration, informatics and forensics.
The goals of the Biomedical Ethics program are to:
introduce the range of ethical issues encountered by health care clinicians and researchers
foster students' sensitivity to the moral dimensions of health care delivery
provide an understanding of how biomedical ethicists analyze questions
provide insight into the American regulatory framework, health care system and American legal decisions related to health care
develop skills in critical thinking and writing about contested biomedical ethical issues
improve understanding of issues related to ethics and health disparities

The journey is what excites Jillian Tullis, PhD. An associate professor of communication studies at the University of San Diego, Tullis was honored in February as the 2020 Women of Impact faculty award recipient. Caught off guard by the nomination, Tullis is thankful for the recognition, but insists it’s the intrinsic rewards, rather than the extrinsic ones, that motivate her.
