Build Your Anthropological Skills
Anthropology at the University of San Diego prepares students to explore the human experience across time and cultures. Through coursework, fieldwork and research opportunities, students develop a broad knowledge of human diversity while gaining practical skills for careers in research, education, public service and applied fields.
Learning Outcomes
Students who complete the anthropology program will:
- Learn the history, theories and methods central to the major areas of anthropology.
- Apply research methods in archaeology, biological anthropology and cultural anthropology.
- Strengthen communication skills by learning to:
- Write in the formats required by the American Anthropological Association (AAA), American Journal of Physical Anthropology (AJPA) and Society for American Archaeology (SAA).
- Present academic papers and posters at professional meetings.
- Prepare a curriculum vitae, personal statements, application letters, grant proposals, research designs and peer-review responses.
- Understand the scientific method and apply it appropriately within anthropological research.
- Analyze biological and cultural perspectives of human diversity through a global lens, with attention to the consequences of declining global diversity.
- Apply anthropological theory to real-world contexts and contemporary issues.
