Erica Berry

Erica Berry is an assistant professor of accounting at the University of San Diego's Knauss School of Business. She has taught undergraduate courses in introductory accounting and won the Robin and Roger Best Teaching Award for teaching excellence in accounting in 2020.

Her current research interests include litigation, misconduct, financial disclosure decisions and the effects of financial disclosures. Her dissertation examined the impact of increased transparency, studying how foreign direct investment behavior changes after countries enact legislation improving disclosure of ownership and control of organizations in an effort to combat corruption and tax avoidance. She is currently a member of the American Institute of Public Accounting and the American Accounting Association.

Before beginning her academic career, Professor Berry was a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Florida and Illinois and a Certified Fraud Examiner. She previously worked in investigations and litigation support as a Forensic Accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory Services, where she specialized in Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigations and due diligence. She also has worked as an external auditor for PricewaterhouseCoopers and as an international internal auditor for a large, multinational Fortune 500 company.

Professor Berry obtained her PhD in business administration with a concentration in accounting from the University of Oregon. She received her master’s degree in professional accountancy and her bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in finance from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
