Weekend Programming Committee

Mission Statement

The Torero Weekend Programming Committee’s mission is to encourage students to stay for the weekend through various events and activities offered and to provide a fun, innovative free and/or inexpensive programming for all students.

The Torero Weekend Programming Committee provides an alcohol-free environment with opportunities for students to gain experiences in programming, leadership development, and responsible social interaction. The goals of the Torero Weekend Programming Committee are:

  • Enhance campus life on the weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday)

  • Compliment existing scheduled events and also help promote the events occurring later

  • Provide free and inexpensive weekend programming

  • Create spaces for student to gather and socialize

  • Build excitement on campus in order to build a stronger and spirited USD community

  • Provide diverse programs

  • Collaborate with students, student organizations, Greek Life, staff, and faculty to encourage all of these groups to share special areas of expertise and talent

  • Connect students with entertainment opportunities in the greater San Diego community, using the area as a laboratory for exploration

  • Encourage student involvement and leadership

  • Become a Torero tradition

The Student Leadership and Involvement Center is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated undergraduate student to lead the Torero Weekend Programming Committee. The Chair responsibilities are:

Torero Weekend Programming Chair Job Profile

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with committee members on a bi-monthly basis to plan, coordinate, attend and support the weekend events and programs.

  • Foster and promote inclusivity through programs and services.

  • Responsible for recruiting, interviewing and appointing committee members

  • Meet with Committee and review grant proposals for approval and allocation of funds and soliciting the involvement of student organizations in planning weekend programming activities

  • Generate ideas through assessment on weekend programming needs

  • Meet on a weekly basis with advisor

  • Provide leadership and directions for future endeavors for weekend programming

  • Attend student-sponsored programs for support and feedback

  • Work with VP for Programming to plan, implement, and evaluate weekend programming for the USD community on campus

  • Work with advisor (and/or VP for Programming) to contact agents, companies, vendors, and venues when needed

  • Work cooperatively with marketing specialists to publicize events and coordinate audience developments efforts

  • Coordinate hospitality for those involved with events

  • Work with each RHA Hall and Greek representative along with RA's to effectively plan and promote weekend events for the semester

  • Communicate with proper on and off campus departments, including but not limited to facilities, physical plant, public safety, IT, and food services

  • Work with Administrator to properly utilize committee help

  • Other duties as assigned
