Cara Mitnick, Esq., Assistant Dean for Career Services
Dean Mitnick brings the combined experience of both career counseling as well as legal practice to Career Services. A graduate of Northwestern University School of Law, Dean Mitnick worked for almost a decade in the tax group at Jones Day Reavis & Pogue LLP in New York City. While there, she was actively involved in the firm’s recruiting efforts. Most recently, she served as director of the Career Services office at California Western School of Law in San Diego, California. Dean Mitnick’s many years of practice and counseling as well as her experience as a research analyst for the House Judiciary Committee in Washington, D.C., have provided her with valuable insights into the legal market that are indispensable for students. Margie Cartwright, Esq., Associate Director for Advising and Programs
Following her graduation from Tulane University Law School, Margie Cartwright practiced complex business and securities litigation here in San Diego at Cooley Godward LLP. Ms. Cartwright then expanded her practice to include a number of other areas at her own firm, The Cartwright Law Group, APLC. Heather Lloyd, Esq., Career Advisor and Employer Liaison
Heather Lloyd, Esq. is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and has a masters degree in Education. After graduation from law school, she practiced estate planning at McGuireWoods LLP in Virginia. She then moved to California where she worked as a recruiting coordinator for Latham & Watkins LLP. Ms. Lloyd's experiences as both a practicing attorney and legal recruiter allow her to offer meaningful insight regarding the legal industry to students and alumni. Jennifer Schmied, Esq., Career Advisor
Jennifer Schmied is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law. Following graduation from law school, she practiced real estate and complex corporate litigation at Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps in San Diego. After nearly five years at Luce, Ms. Schmied moved to Fish & Richardson, where she practiced intellectual property and complex corporate litigation. Lizzette Herrera, Esq., Public Interest Law Advisor
Lizzette Herrera is a graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law. She also has a masters in Social Work from San Diego State University. Ms. Herrera’s previous employment includes work with the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program as well as with the UCSD Binational Program, where she worked with children infected with HIV in Mexico. In addition, Ms. Herrera is a professor of paralegal and legal studies at Southwestern College. Ms. Herrera’s valuable perspective as a USD alumnus as well as her unparalleled knowledge of the public interest sector provide a fantastic resource for all students. Anita Ying, Assistant Director of Operations and Special Projects
Anita Ying ensures that the Career Services Office runs smoothly and remains organized in every way – from coordinating the posting of student and alumni employment opportunities to promoting numerous regional and national job fairs. She also manages our on-campus recruiting programs. Ms. Ying has a B.S. in Criminal Justice Administration from San Diego State University and obtained her paralegal certification here at the University of San Diego. Following her certification, she worked as a paralegal in San Diego at Fish & Richardson LLP and Cooley Godward LLP. Most recently, she worked at California Western School of Law as the Career Services Office Manager. Graylin Clavell, Executive Administrative Assistant
Graylin Clavell provides assistance to all visitors and guests of the Career Services Office. Mr. Clavell is currently completing a degree in Business Management at Mesa Community College. He offers students, alumni and employers his broad range of customer service experience and also draws from his previous eight-year career in the United States Air Force. Roseanne Preciado, Administrative Assistant
Roseanne Preciado graduated from a small liberal arts college in New York and also received a degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Roseanne worked in New York City for several years before moving to California. She joined the University of San Diego School of Law’s Career Services Office two years ago. She is primarily responsible for coordinating judicial clerkship applications, managing databases and providing professional and courteous service to students and employers alike.
