Now Hiring: Resident Ministry Positions
University Ministry is looking for a few graduate students interested in working as Resident Ministers, living among and ministering to our undergraduates. The purpose of the Residential Ministry program is to build community within the residence halls and to provide our students with spiritual and service opportunities to enhance faith, values, social commitment and self-awareness. Ideally, candidates for the Resident Minister positions will have some ministry experience with college students as well as a strong desire to help students grow spiritually. In return for (an average of) 15 hours of ministry work per week, the University will provide a furnished apartment and a $2,000 annual stipend.
A reflection of the university's commitment to caring for each student and for offering resources for each student's holistic development, Resident Ministers live in and serve the communities in the Residence Halls. At least one Resident Minister is assigned to each Residential Living Area where they are responsible for fostering community, spirituality, and hospitality. During 2012-13, there are 10 Resident Ministers living on the USD campus.
Resident Ministers are USD University Ministers or graduate students trained in theology and pastoral counseling. RM's make the connection between Residential Life and University Ministry and seek to integrate the programs and services of University Ministry into the residence halls.
Resident Ministers are available to:
- Talk with students... about anything!
- Facilitate small group discussions about vocational discernment or spiritual exploration.
- Provide opportunities for balance and stress relief, reflection and prayer.
- Lead Bible Study sessions or similar meetings to explore meaning in the context of university life.
- Encourage and animate community service activities.
- Connect students with all the helpful organizations and resources at USD and beyond.
Resident Ministers are students' allies and confidantes, available to answer questions about everything from religion to stress, relationships, and decision-making.
