Robert Barry FlemingDirector of Theatre Arts Office: Camino 130A Bio: Robert recieved his M.F.A. from The University of Alabama/ Alabama Shakespeare Festival/ Professional Actor Training Program. Joined the Theatre Arts faculty at USD in 2004. Teaching specialties are in the area of Performance: Acting, Voice and Speech, Singing, Musical Theatre and Dance Theatre. Directing and Choreography credits include SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD (USD) and the graduate and undergraduate joint production of MARAT/SADE by Peter Weiss (USD). THE GAME OF LOVE AND CHANCE (San Jose Rep, dir. Timothy Douglas), THUNDER KNOCKING ON THE DOOR (A Contemporary Theatre, dirs. Timothy Near and Michael Butler), TWELFTH NIGHT (Alabama Shakespeare Festival, dir. Kent Gash), MA RAINEY’S BLACK BOTTOM (Theatre Memphis), HONK! (Playhouse on the Square/ Circuit Playhouse). Robert adapted and directed an original hip-hop/gospel adaptation of Dicken’s classic A CHRISTMAS CAROL titled A MEMPHIS CAROL (Theatreworks) ,and has written a solo piece about Malagasy poet Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo which he performed at the Centre International Artistique de Roy Hart in Malerague, France where he is a member. Vocal and Dialect Coaching credits include The Old Globe: SIGHT UNSEEN (dir. Esther Emery), The Arena Stage: VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE (dir. Daniel Aukin) and DEATH OF A SALESMAN (dir. Tim Bond), The La Jolla Playhouse: THE WIZ (dir. Des MacAnuff), THE ADDING MACHINE (dir. Daniel Aukin) and MOST WANTED by Jessica Hagedorn (dir. Michael Grief). Awards and Honors include The SDTCC 2007 Craig Noel Award for Outstanding Featured Performance in a Musical (AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' @ The San Diego Repertory Theatre) and a Dramalogue Award for Featured Performance in a Play (PUDDIN' AND PETE @ The Old Globe). Upcoming: Robert will direct and choreograph AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' at Center Rep (August 2008) and THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED at the Diversionary Theatre (May 2009). |
