USD has affiliate partnerships in several countries around the world. USD students can fulfill major, minor, core, and other graduation requirements, are eligible to apply their USD financial aid towards tuition and program fees, can maintain their enrollment status at USD while abroad. The programs offer quality advising and support on-site and will allow you to study along side other USD students.
These programs, offered by partner study abroad organizations, universities, and other program providers, generally offer two models of international experiences.
The first model is the “Island Program” and involves placing USA study abroad students, and perhaps some students from other countries, into their programs abroad and teaching them a variety of courses in the USA system. Usually there are no local students taking the courses offered in these study abroad centers so for students the immersion experiences happen outside of the classroom in homestays or social settings. Some of these affiliate providers do enable students to take 1-2 courses in local universities. These courses taught at the local university will generally not be available in English, unless that is the local language.
The second model is the “Direct Enroll Programs” in which American students directly enroll at local universities. Participants will generally be able to select from the entire university's course offerings and these courses will not be available in English, unless that is the local language.
USD has several affiliate semester program options.
