Graduate Programs

Master of Education

Thirty-unit programs are designed for those interested in gaining expertise in current educational reform and best practices in learning and teaching. Standards infused into the programs include the California Standards for the Teaching Profession, the use of computer-based technology to facilitate the learning and teaching process, and values, ethics, and character. Many programs are available: Character Education, Curriculum and Teaching, Literacy, Special Education, TESOL, and Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education. Students seeking to work in special education may obtain the master's degree and the educational specialist credential (level one or level two) together in a 30-unit program. Internship programs in special education are available.

Each of the programs consists of required courses and electives to be culminated in the presentation of a portfolio, or, if requested by the student, a master's thesis.

Master of Arts - Teaching

This degree program offers candidates opportunity to develope both pedagogical and content knowledge. Candidates take half of their coursework within SOLES and the other half through graduate programs within the College of Arts and Sciences.

  • History / Social Science 
    Beginning in Fall 2008, all students pursuing a master's or doctoral degree within SOLES will be required to participate in an international experience as a part of their graduate study.
