Pre-Health Counseling

The goal of the Pre-Health Counseling Office is to offer guidance to Pre-Health USD students during their educational journey. This office was also developed to assist students with identifying specific professional school prerequisites, determine appropriate courses, assist with locating volunteer and community service opportunities, and to help students understand the professional school application process. In addition to these responsibilities and goals, the Health Professions Office also functions as a liaison to various professional schools, serves as club advisor to campus pre-health clubs, and provides referral support for on and off campus resources for volunteering opportunities. To accomplish the aforementioned goals, the Pre-Health Counseling Office offers various workshops throughout the academic year. These workshops include the introductory one hour workshop Preparing for a Career in the Health Professions (offered throughout each academic year, October- April), Interviewing Skills workshops, Professional School Application workshops, Health Career Pathway Options workshops and Personal Statement workshops. Attendance at the introductory Preparing for a Career in the Health Professions workshop is crucial and encouraged for all USD pre-health students. This primary workshop creates the critical foundation necessary for successful educational progress towards acceptance into a professional school (medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, etc).
