WorldLink/Youth
Youth Town Meetings (YTM)
Each year, over 700 middle and high school students participate in an annual Youth Town Meeting to meet with represents from the U.S. Department of State and other public and private organizations.
Youth Town Meetings are grounded in the belief that youth have much to offer and much to gain from discussion with experts and professionals regarding the complexities and challenges of international affairs. Regional and international high school students have been given the opportunity to engage in relevant, pressing global issues from experts in the field, attorneys, the Department of State, and international NGOs.
2010 Youth Town Meeting
Student delegates from the 12th Annual Youth Town Meeting elected WorldLink’s theme for the 2009-2010 academic year. The 13th Annual Youth Town Meeting’s (YTM) theme is "Development: Fighting Global Poverty, " focusing on education, health care, food security, trade & finance, infrastructure and governance .
The 13th Annual YTM will be held on Friday, January 22, 2010.
Read the student-produced 2010 Online Reader!
The 2009 WorldLink Summer Interns created the WORLDLINK READER, a classroom tool that provides youth with the important background knowledge regarding YTM topics. The Reader is used by over 30 classrooms in San Diego County and Baja California, Mexico.

Save the date! The 13th annual Youth Town Meeting will be held on Friday, January 22, 2010. Registration for this event is now open. If you are a teacher or youth leader who would like to learn more about how to participate, please contact Program Officer Karla Alvarez.
Sponsor a School
The recent economic crisis has deeply affected school budgets. Billions of dollars have been cut from K-12 schools this year, eliminating several school programs and participation in extracurricular activities. As WorldLink students and their families from both sides of the border continue to feel the brunt of the global economic crisis, students from underprivileged areas are at greatest risk of being unable to cover the costs associated with transportation to USD. Several schools have already notified us of their concerns for 2009-2010 participation.
To respond to this need, WorldLink is seeking school sponsorships. A $2,000 donation covers a school delegation’s (35 students, 2 chaperones) transportation, breakfast, lunch, YTM souvenir and a contribution towards a guest speaker’s travels.
If you are interested in sponsoring a school or contributing towards a school’s partial costs, please contact Karla Alvarez.
