Joao Roberto Martins Filho, Ph.D.
The Brazilian military embraces globalization as a means of conservative economic development, but is concerned about U.S. involvement in the Amazon. Dr. Martins Filho is a prominent Brazilian political scientist and former Fulbright scholar in the U.S. at UC Riverside. He is currently in residence at UC Santa Barbara. He is the author of several books on the military era in Brazil and is an expert on Brazilian security matters. Dr. Martins Filho teaches at the Federal University of Sao Carlos, one of Brazil's top universities.
