About IPJ
U.N. Connection
The U.N.'s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) granted Special Consultative status to the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice in July 2004. The status enables the IPJ to designate representation to the United Nations Headquarters in New York and U.N. offices in Geneva, Paris and Vienna. Membership includes regular participation in programs and requests to respond to issues of concern.
In addition to participating in U.N. programs, the IPJ has recognized the work of the U.N. and its local supporter, the United Nations Association (UNA) of San Diego, by hosting panels, talks and a 2002 celebration of the establishment of the International Criminal Court. The IPJ has hosted the Junior Model United Nations spring conferences, as well as the annual United Nations Day UNA program. Deputy Director Dee Aker was awarded the UNA Nona and Carol Cannon award for her work for the UNA of San Diego.
The IPJ also partners with various entities of the United Nations in its programming and conferences, including bi-annual co-sponsorship by UNIFEM (part of UN Women) in Women PeaceMakers Conferences.
