The Kroc School

Welcome to the Kroc School, where practice meets reflection. In just its sixth year, the Kroc School is dedicated to building and sustaining peace and justice through innovative learning, interdisciplinary analysis, advanced practice, and engaged public policy. At the Kroc School, peace and justice are regarded as core public policy challenges of the twenty-first century, not just matters of academic inquiry. There are hundreds of schools of public policy in the United States, but only one—the Kroc School—is focused on peace and justice.

Through its Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice, the faculty, staff, and students of the School are helping populations achieve peace and justice in places around the world that have recently experienced conflict. Working with its Trans-Border Institute, they are addressing urgent transnational issues affecting the people of Mexico and the United States, as well as peace and justice questions that transcend other key borders. The Kroc School is small in numbers, yet broad in its reach and capacity to make a difference.

The distinctive character of the Kroc School stems from its conviction that policy-making, like learning, works best when it is an interactive process. Practice should inform policy, even as policy informs practice. A Kroc School education values scholarship and practical experience equally. It emphasizes the highest standards of competence, compassion, and understanding, recognizing that true expertise is rooted in the experience of people affected by conflict and injustice.
