Important Events & Meetings
During the course of the Torero Days 2008, all new students are encouraged to attend all informational meetings. There are MANDATORY meetings that all new students are required to attend. If these meeting apply to you, your attendance will be expected.
Saturday, August 30
President's Welcome --Opening of Torero Days 2008 (MANDATORY)
The program begins! A welcome from University
of San Diego President Dr. Mary Lyons and an overview of Torero Days
2008. Students will sit with their preceptorial class and small group leader. Parents/family members are invited and will be seated on the sides of the pavilion.

Small Group Meeting (MANDATORY)
This meeting will immediately follow the welcome.You will meet your
small group leader and the rest of your small group, which is made up
of other new students. Very important, don't miss it!
Sunday, August 31
New Student & Parent Mass (All are invited!)
A very special liturgy has been prepared to welcome all new students and their families into the USD community. Persons of all denominations are welcome. A special blessing from parents to students is given at the end of the Mass. Come and join us!
Residence Hall Community Meetings (MANDATORY for resident
students)
All resident students will meet in their designated hall areas on campus.
The meetings will provide an opportunity to interact with your fellow residents and hear about on-campus living.
At this time you will also meet your Resident Director, Resident Minister, and Resident Faculty specific to your
area of campus. Locations will be identified by your Resident Assistant (RA).
Commuter Meeting (MANDATORY for commuter students)
This meeting will occur at the same time as the Residence Hall Meetings
and will address some key issues for commuter students. Come and get
some helpful information on how, as a commuter, you can connect to campus
life. Make sure you attend as you are sure to be surprised when you
find out about everything USD offers to its commuter students.
Film (MANDATORY for Freshmen)
Join your residence halls in watching the award winning film "The Constant Gardener." The aim of this presentation is to provide some shared student "downtime" in concurrence with a chance for some critical reflection and discussion. A discussion regarding the film will occur on Tuesday, September 2 following the meeting with your preceptor.
Monday, September 3
T-Squad/Preceptorial Assistant Meeting (MANDATORY for Freshmen)
An interactive important discussion with continuing students. They will share ideas and strategies regarding how academic and student life impact each other and can contribute to academic achievement.
12 Steps to Appreciating Diversity (MANDATORY)
An interactive and engaging session offering new students the tools necessary for developing a welcoming inclusive campus environment for everyone.
Living & Studying in a New Environment (MANDATORY for international students)
This meeting will be an opportunity for international students to learn
more about each other and receive vital information about living in
San Diego. The educational system at USD and information on the English
proficiency test will also be presented.
Getting Involved (MANDATORY)
Getting Involved is a program that allows students to learn about the organizations and activities available to them at USD. Students will choose three of the four presentations to attend. Each one of these sessions will be presented three times beginning at 2:00, 2:45, and 3:30. Students will learn about how to join a variety of clubs, meet the people in charge and receive a list of the names/contact information for all registered organizations on campus.

| Greek Life/ Multicultural Organizations As you begin walking around campus looking for a place to connect with other students, develop as a leader, learn some valuable life skills, or just relax, Greek Life and the United Front Multicultural Center are two places for you. Come and discover all the opportunities and benefits of becoming an active member of these very unique communities. Representatives and student leaders from both areas will introduce you to the various resources, services, and programs that you can begin to explore. |

"He Said, She Said" -- Katie Koestner (MANDATORY)
Katie Koestner, an acquaintance rape survivor, and a sexual assault risk management consultant, presents this powerful program on preventing campus sexual assault.
Tuesday, September 2
Preceptorial Meeting (MANDATORY for Freshmen)
This will be your chance to meet your Preceptor, ask questions about the preceptorial program and allow your Preceptor to describe his/her expectations of you. Please refer to your nametag for your meeting room number. Your professor might treat this as your first formal class meeting, so be sure to bring your supplies.

Financial Aid Meetings (MANDATORY for those receiving any financial assistance)
If you received an Offer of Financial Aid Assistance from the USD Office of Financial Aid, you are required to attend this meeting. You will learn about the importance of private outside scholarships, the USD registration process, and tips on how to meet financial deadlines. You will also be introduced to several important financial offices such as the Financial Aid Office, Student Accounts, and Student Employment. If circumstances beyond your control will prevent you from attending your scheduled meetings, you must contact the Office of Financial Aid at (619) 260 - 4514 before August 26, 2006. All meeting times above will meet in Shiley Theater.
New Student Convocation (MANDATORY)
This is a very important event and meeting for ALL NEW STUDENTS. This program will introduce you to academic mission and climate and explain USD's Preceptorial Program. Dress is Business Casual.

Discover San Diego
Discover San Diego is an exciting program you sign up for over the summer. The goal of this program is to introduce you to the complex cultural, environmental, historical, and intellectual environment of the greater San Diego community. You will receive a confirmation in the envelope with your name tag when you check in for Torero Days.
Week of September 22th
3rd Week Check-in (MANDATORY for Resident Students)
Your RA has planned a meeting in conjunction with USD Wellness staff to provide information, create discussion, and reconnect with your floor community.
