Dr. Nancy Jean Gardetto

Nancy Gardetto, PhD, NP is an advanced practice/nurse practitioner and the clinical manager for the Heart Failure (HF) and Cardiac Transplant Program at the VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS). From April 1998, Dr. Gardetto has held a full-time clinical position at the VASDHS. As a PhD candidate in 2011 Dr. Gardetto accepted a dual research/clinical appointment at the VASDHS. Dr. Gardetto has over 30 years of nursing experience in acute and chronic cardiovascular care. As an advanced practice nurse Dr. Gardetto held positions as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in the critical care hospital setting, telemetry and interventional cardiology. Dr. Gardetto completed her MSN/FNP in a dual program from San Diego State University and University of California, San Diego in May 1995 and accepted a position as a program manager/NP for the Electrophysiology Service at Kaiser Permanente. In 1998 Ms. Gardetto accepted a clinical position in Heart Failure (HF) and Cardiac Transplantation at the VASDHS. Dr. Gardetto has demonstrated successful collaboration as a clinical researcher and a HF expert on numerous multidisciplinary research projects for over 25 years. While completing her dissertation work, Dr. Gardetto participated as a principal investigator on 2 independent research projects. Dr. Gardetto’s research interests are in HF management in both acute and chronic heart disease.
