ExpressO Top 100 Review

The editorial board seeks manuscripts that provide academic research on emerging trends in today's legal community. The San Diego Law Review welcomes manuscripts researching any field of law from legal practitioners, legislative personnel, jurists, and academic professors. In addition to San Diego Law Review's international circulation, articles receive supplemented exposure from LEXIS and Westlaw electronic database queries.

Currently, the San Diego Law Review is full through their November/December 2012 issue. The San Diego Law Review will not begin reviewing articles for subsequent issues until June 1, 2012.

Submission Requirements

Submissions should be made electronically through ExpressO. If not available through your location please submit articles to usdjournals@gmail.com. If submitting electronically is not a possibilty in your location, paper submissions may be sent to:

San Diego Law Review
University of San Diego School of Law
5998 Alcala Park, GH 201C
San Diego, CA 92110

All submissions must include the article, a cover letter, cv information or resume, and abstract. Submissions that fail to include these items will take longer to process. In addition, manuscript citations should appear in footnotes, not endnotes, and should conform to the 19th edition of The Bluebook. Citation and text style should follow the 11th edition of the Texas Law Review Manual on Usage & Style.

Review Process

The San Diego Law Review fully considers every manuscript it receives. During the selection process, at least one editor will review each manuscript and, if waranted, submit it to the Lead Articles Publication Committee. The Committee will then review the manuscript and vote to extend a pbulication offer. The Review is committed to extending publication offers for a two week period. Please note: During December 6-16, 2011 and April 30 - May 10, 2012, our editors will be in the midst of finals. Any articles or expedited requests received will be reviewed after this time period.

Editing Policy

The San Diego Law Review is a lightly-edited publication; our editors will not revise a manuscript unless necessary to bring it into conformity with The Bluebook, Texas Law Review Manual on Usage & Style, and SDLR conventions. This hands-off editing methodology evinces our belief that authors should retain control of their manuscripts. Indeed, many of our suggested revisions are just that—suggestions that we will not incorporate without the contributing author's approval.

Publication Agreement

Below is a sample agreement that we ask our authors to sign.

Upon execution of this contract, Writer's copyright in the Article shall transfer to SDLR, and shall become the property of SDLR. If SDLR unreasonably fails to publish Article within two years, then said copyright shall revert to Writer. SDLR agrees that it will grant all requests to reproduce the Article, in whole or in part, either in print or by electronic means, made by any person or organization that wishes to use the Article, or any part thereof, in any educational or scholarly publication, or for any educational or scholarly purpose, and that it will not unreasonably withhold permission to reproduce the Article from any person or organization that wishes to use the Article in a commercial or profit making venture, including but not limited to reproduction by LEXIS and WESTLAW. In addition, SDLR agrees to permit Writer to excerpt or reproduce all or part of the Article in her own future work as often and to whatever extent she might desire, provided that in all such cases SDLR shall be clearly identified as the place of original publication.
