International Association of Defense Counsel 2013 Legal Writing Contest
- Subject: Any paper covering the fields of tort law, insurance law, civil procedure, evidence, or other areas of practical concern to lawyers engaged in the defense or management of the defense of civil litigation.
- Deadline for entry is May 17, 2013.
- First Place: $2,000 and plaque
- Second Place: $1,000 and plaque
- Third Place: $500 and plaque
- Honorable Mention: Plaque
The American College of Employee Benefits Counsel Ninth Annual Employee Benefits Writing Competition
- Subject: Any paper dealing with employee benefits topics.
- Deadline for entry is June 1, 2013.
- Clarin M. Schwartz Memorial Award: $1,500, an invitation to The American College's annual black tie dinner on November 9, 2013 in New Orleans, a plaque, and an employee benefits treatise published by BNA Books.
- Sidney M. Perlstadt Memorial Award: $1,500, an invitation to The American College's annual black tie dinner on November 9, 2013 in New Orleans, a plaque, and an employee benefits treatise published by BNA Books.
University of Connecticut School of Law Student Legal Writing Competition
- Subject: Any paper on a legal issue affecting persons struggling with homelessness, mental illness, addiction, or substance abuse.
- Deadline for entry is June 3, 2013.
- First Prize: $750
- Second Prize: $500
- Third Prize: $250
2013 Judge John R. Brown Award for Excellence in Legal Writing
- Subject: Any paper covering a current legal topic.
- Deadline for entry is June 7, 2013.
- Grand Prize: $10,000
Asian Pacific American Bar Association Educational Fund (AEF) Robert T. Matsui Annual Writing Competition
- Subject: Any topic of interest to the applicant so long as it reasonably relates to Asian Pacific Americans and the law.
- Deadline for entry is June 15, 2013.
- Grand Prize: $1,500 and publication in the UCLA School of Law's Asian Pacific American Law Journal.
4th Jacques Leroy International Prize: Business and Human Rights
- Subject: Any paper (trial or appellate argument, memorandum, or case law commentary) on the theme: "Fair Trade: how can we establish rules that are specific and realistic?".
- Deadline for entry is June 30, 2013.
- Grand Prize: 1000 Euros, participation in the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA) annual congress taking place in Macau, China from October 31 to November 4, 2013, including travel costs and accommodations, and a free membership in the UIA for one year.
2013 Tannenwald Writing Competition
- Subject: Any paper focusing on technical or policy-oriented tax issues relating to any type of existing or proposed U.S. federal or state tax or U.S. federal or state taxation system (including topics relating to tax practice ethical and professional responsibility matters).
- Deadline for entry is July 1, 2013.
- First Place: $5,000
- Second Place: $2,500
- Third Place: $1,500
Audre Rapoport Prize for Scholarship on Gender and Human Rights
- Subject: Any paper that addresses gender and human rights from an international, transnational, or comparative perspective.
- Deadline for entry is July 1, 2013.
- Grand Prize: $1,000 and publication on the Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice website.
2013 New York State Bar Association Committee on Animals and the Law Student Writing Competition
- Subject: Any paper on the topic of animal law.
- Deadline for entry is July 1, 2013.
- First Place: $1,000 and a certificate of achievement
- Second Place: $500 and a certificate of achievement
2013 American Inns of Court Warren E. Burger Prize Writing Competition
- Subject: Any original, unpublished essay on a topic of your choice addressing the issues of excellence in legal skills, civility, ethics and professionalism.
- Deadline for entry is July 15, 2013.
- $5,000 and publication in the South Carolina Law Review.
Americans United for Life: The Advocates for Life Legal Writing Contest
- Subject: A paper in response to the prompt which involves new legal opinions of the landmark case Roe v. Wade.
- Deadline for entry is September 20, 2013.
- First Place: $1,000, publication in Human Life Review, and recognition at the Advocates for Life reception in January 2014.
- Second Place: $750 and recognition at the Advocates for Life reception in January 2014.
- Third Place: $500 and recognition at the Advocates for Life reception in January 2014.
