USD's Policy Key

WHAT is USD's Policy Key?

USD's Policy Key is the client for Safe*Connect , which is a Network Access Control system from Impulse Point.

WHY do we use the Policy Key?

The goal of Policy Key is to ensure that computers connecting to the USD network meet USD's security criteria. This includes user authentication, anti-virus and anti-spyware, Microsoft security patches, and restricting P2P (file sharing) software use.

Policy Key ensures that computers connected to the USD network are protected, providing all users with a safer, more secure, and reliable network.

WHO does it affect?

Policy Key affects all users connecting through the USD wireless network, as well as users connecting through wired ports in all residence halls.

HOW does it work?

Users will be prompted to log in using their MySandiego username and password. They must also agree to the Responsible Use Policy in order to gain access to Internet resources. Additionally, Windows computers will be required to install the Policy Key client software package in order to pass the safety checks.

WHEN does this go into effect?

  • Monday 9/15 - Policy key will be required
    • Non-compliant computers will be warned about their violation but will still have access to internet services.
  • Thursday 9/18 - Non-compliant computers will be blocked
    • This means that non-compliant computers will not be able to access internet services. Non-compliant computers will only have limited access to University online resources and select sites required to become compliant. (eg. Windows Updates, Anti-virus update sites)

Be Prepared!

By downloading and installing the Policy Key now, you can prepare yourself for this deadline and avoid any complications of non-compliance.
