Wimba
- Live Classroom
- Voice Tools
- Pronto
Live Classroom is Wimba’s virtual live conferencing tool and can operate within CE or as a stand-alone application. It can be used as a remote classroom, to invite distant experts in to local classes or to record podcasts. It includes application sharing, polling, whiteboarding, and can accept uploaded PowerPoint presentations and other documents.
Voice Tools are integrated with our LMS and bring voice capabilities into a normally text heavy environment.
Pronto is Wimba’s on-line instant messaging software. It operates in a very similar fashion to Yahoo Instant Messenger and some of the others, but it automatically populates the contact list with students registered in your classes.

Wimba is rapidly being adopted by many entities on campus.
- Instructors who need to travel or be away from campus can still conduct a class session at the regularly scheduled time ... virtually!
- Others have found that pre-recording their lectures in conjunction with their PowerPoint slides offers their students an effective supplemental resource on-demand.
- Live Classroom is also being used for virtual meetings for time-strapped committees on campus.
- Language instructors are finding that Wimba Voice Tools can significantly enhance learning of new languages.
- Students have responded positively to the availability of virtual office hours that are being offered by some instructors.
- Student feedback has been positive about Pronto and the ease with which it allows them to connect to their classmates quickly.
Wimba tools allow you to …
- Offer virtual office hours, eliminating extra travel and supports USD’s Be Blue Go Green initiative!
- Conduct a live class session even if you are on travel.
- Pre-record lectures and make them available via a link.
- Podcast simply and easily from within your CE course.
- Expose your students to tools they will be using in the business world.
- Keep your students connected even when they are not in the classroom.

Wimba Voice Tools in the Language Class - Dr. Randa Jad-Moussa
“While Wimba is commonly used as a teaching tool, I encourage my students to use the tool for team collaboration and presentations. This is important for students because it exposes them to technology already being used in businesses. Since technology is reshaping and driving today’s businesses, it’s essential that students have rudimentary understanding of current technology, and if possible, what’s on the horizon.”
- Pat Lupica
Instructor, School of Business Administration
“As a primarily online program the MS-SCM depends on having a reliable, robust and dynamic learning platform. Increasingly we are using interactive multimedia across all of the courses on the program and would have been unable to achieve our progress without the concerted support from iTeam. Their support of Wimba, especially Live Classroom and podcasts have enabled faculty in other states to participate and grade student presentations given on campus, make sure we can provide regular seminars for all of our students wherever they may be and engage faculty development in online learning pedagogy through creative use of podcasting.”
