What is SafeAssign/TurnItIn?
This type of software checks student work for plagiarism against an extensive database. USD has two applications for assisted plagiarism detection.
- Safe Assign, is a Blackboard/WebCT application and is available within every CE course. Using Safe Assign, students submit their work through CE into an electronic drop box as they have in the past, and the integrated component assesses the assignment for possible plagiarism. (see “Show Me” for an example)
- TurnItIn is a Web-based application that can be used by instructors still wishing to have an electronic means of checking originality of work, who collect electronic student submissions via email or means other than CE.

Follow these simple steps to be on your way …
- SafeAssign: If you use CE, simply add a Safe Assign drop box to your course from the Build Tab.
- Turn-It-In: If you are teaching a face-to-face course and do not use CE, contact Amy Besnoy (abesnoy@sandiego.edu) to get your TurnItIn.com account activated
