Rigoberta Menchu, Nobel Laureate and leading advocate of indian rights and ethno-cultural reconciliation, speaks about the issues Guatemala faces today in the peace-making and peace-keeping process. This event is sponsored by USD International Center, Office of Student Affairs, Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice, Ahlers Center for International Business, College of Arts and Sciences, Latin American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Social Issues Conference, and School of Leadership and Education Sciences.

Join Captain Woolley in a panel discussion on the current piracy situation in international waters. Speakers will discuss their real world experiences fighting piracy on the high seas and solutions for resolving this global problem. This event is co-sponsored by Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice and the Ahlers Center for International Business.
10:45am - 12:00pm ~ A Levantine Tragedy: Syria and Lebanon since 1973 with Claude Salhani

Mr. Salhani is the author of While the Arab World Slept and editor of The Middle East Times. Over his thirty year career, he has reported on nearly a dozen conflicts across seventy eight countries, including those in the Middle East running from Black September to the Gulf War. He was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the bombing of the US Marine barracks in Beirut.

Ambassador Bokor will speak about the very important presence Hungary had up to 1989 as a leader in the political, economic, and social change that changed the shape of Europe and eventually the world. Hungary is proud to have taken the first step towards the reunification of Germany and the creation of a united Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Tim Wise: Challenging Racism in the Age of Obama

Tim Wise is among the most prominent anti-racist writers and activists in the U.S., having spoken to over 300,000 people in 48 states, and on over 400 college campuses, including Harvard, Stanford, and the Law Schools at Yale, Columbia, and Vanderbilt. He has trained teachers as well as corporate, government, media, entertainment, military and law enforcement officials on methods for dismantling racism in their institutions, and has served as a consultant for plaintiff’s attorneys in federal discrimination cases in New York and Washington State. This event is sponsored by USD Associated Students.

Environmental Conflict Resolution Conference
A working conference bringing global insights to controversies related to water justice and hydro-diplomacy in San Diego –Tijuana border region. Conference Sessions will:
- Support hydro-diplomacy and trans-border solutions to water security in the San Diego/Tijuana region
- Enhance effective communication among regional policymakers, scientists, community organizations, tribal communities, private sector and conflict resolution experts.
