Q. What is the University Fund?
A. The University Fund supports USD’s current fiscal year's operating budget with funds for a wide range of university programs and services, such as financial assistance, building maintenance, lab and classroom materials and utilities. When you give to the University Fund, you can be sure your gift is helping Toreros find a way — right now.
Q. Doesn't tuition cover these expenses?
A. Yes, but only partially. Tuition covers about roughly 90 percent of the cost of educating a student at USD. This is in line with most private universities.
Q. How are the remaining expenses covered?
A. In order to maintain USD as a leading Catholic institution of higher learning, we depend on annual gifts from trustees, alumni, current parents and parents of alumni, grandparents of current and former students, current and former faculty and staff, and other friends of the university. The remaining funds are generated by summer programs, as well as by USD’s endowment.
Q. If I can only give a small gift, does it really make an impact on USD?
A. Yes. Your gift, combined with those from other donors provides substantial support for the ongoing operations of the university. Every gift counts and every gift is appreciated.
Q. Why does my participation matter?
A. Participation matters because many foundations only fund schools that can demonstrate wide support from their own alumni, parents and administration. In addition, costs for running a university and providing academic program increase every year. To keep USD academically and fiscally healthy, the university needs everyone's participation every year.
