Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) was founded in 2002 on the basis of 3 pillars: projects, education, and community. The organization has been focused on facilitating meaningful experiences for students in engineering and beyond to build skills related to engineering and sustainability by working on projects and doing community outreach. Engineers for a Sustainable World has a vision of a world of environmental, social and economic prosperity created and sustained by local and global collective action. ESW’s mission is to forge innovative, lasting solutions to local and global sustainability challenges.
At USD, we envision this club to be a space for interdisciplinary collaboration on such projects, and also a space for students interested in sustainability to meet and work together. We hope to start small with projects and hopefully build our way up as we grow as a club to more advanced and complex projects. We also hope to have a community focus on these projects, where for example, we are designing something to meet the needs of a local San Diego community. Furthermore, we hope to provide meaningful experiences for our members to learn about sustainability and how sustainable practices can be centered in our personal and professional lives. Finally, we hope to engage with other offices and centers on campus to engage in education efforts about sustainability on campus and beyond.

The Society changes lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development.
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community.
The concept of Networking was the key basis for the organization. SHPE quickly established two student chapters to begin the network that would grow to encompass the nation as well as reach countries outside the United States. Today, SHPE enjoys a strong but independent network of professional and student chapters throughout the nation.
Mission
SHPE changes lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development.
Vision
SHPE's vision is a world where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians and engineers.

Student Spotlight
Involvement is key
"Since the beginning of my time at USD, I have felt so much support from the community I found on campus. Being part of multicultural orgs like the Filipino Ugnayan Student Association (FUSO) and People of the Islands Club (POI) has cultivated cherished friendships of mine and always feels like a home away from home. Opportunities like summer research and participating in the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) has helped me strengthen my professional skills and connect with inspiring individuals. Through it all, I've found a passionate community that continues to shape my college experience in meaningful ways!"
“As a transfer student, I wanted to start strong academically, so I frequently utilized campus resources like the Math Learning Center (MLC) and the Linux Lab. I was intentional about building relationships with faculty and quickly became involved with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). Student Support Services (SSS) became a beacon of guidance and resources, helping me navigate my academic journey with confidence.”
