Pope Francis has consistently spoken of a “culture of encounter” as a goal for human society. At a basic level, this vision invites humanity to deepen our capacity for compassion so that we can resist the “culture of indifference” that tends to dominate our social relationships. A culture of encounter has profound implications for Christian spirituality, which begins with a person’s encounter with Jesus Christ and becomes evident in their relationship with the world around them. What does such a spirituality of encounter look like? And how can we best nurture a spirituality of encounter in our churches, relationships, and communities?
Believing a hunger for a conversation around these questions exists, the Center for Christian Spirituality at the University of San Diego will offer a four part speaker series in 2023.
