Ron Bonn, M.A. Spring 2008 Courses: Office Hours: Mon./Wed.: 1:45 - 2:15 p.m., 4:00 - 4:30 p.m. Ron Bonn joined the Department as adjunct professor in September, 2000. From 1960 to 2000, he was a television news journalist, serving as producer and executive producerforCBS News, NBC News, and such cable outlets as CNN and The Discovery Channel. His 19 years at CBS News included five years as senior producer of "The CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite," and creation of such programs as "Universe," the science magazine for television. He was in charge of coverage of the Apollo moon missions for "The CBS Evening News." During 12 years at NBC News, he becamesupervising producer of specialsegments for "NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw." He worked briefly in Vietnam for CBS, and covered the First Gulf War in Israel for NBC.Major awards include three "Emmy's," the American Bar Assn. Silver Gavel, the Edward R. Murrow brotherhood award of B'Nai B'rith, and two American Women in Radio and Television Commendation awards. He studied science reporting as a CBS News Fellow at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Bonn has been named a Distinguished Alumnus and Lifetime Alumni Fellow of his alma mater, Penn State University. Bonn served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. At present he is a member of the Board of Directors, Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), San Diego chapter. |
