George Ye', MFA

Adjunct Assistant Professor

George is an associate artistic director of the Cygnet Theatre, resident artist at the Diversionary Theatre and has numerous directing, sound design, and fight director credits in San Diego and across the country in Film, Theatre and video. Directing credits include: USD Theatre, Picasso at the Lapine Agile, Sam I Am, Diviners; (Old Globe/USD MFA); Stuff Happens, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Happy Hour; Cygnet Theatre, Copenhagen; Our Town; San Diego Asian American Repertory Theatre, Flipzoids, Woman From the Other Side of the World, Struggling Truths (Pâté Award for Theatre Excellence), Sister Mary Ignatius Explains it all for You, Oleanna, Cultivated Lives, . . .and then he met a woodcutter (San Diego Critics circle award), Professor Saturn’s Atomic Theatre, Do Over, Episode 36, Contact, Playwright’s Project, A+B≠ C, Elevated, Find you in the Forest, 6th@Penn, Oedipus Tyrannus, Oedipus at Colonus, Florida Atlantic University, In Perpetuity Throughout the Universe, The Elephant Man. He is an award winning sound designer often writing original music for designs, and has over a hundred design credits in theatre, film and video.

Education

George earned an MFA in directing from Florida Atlantic University, an M.A. degree in Performance Studies from University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill with an emphasis in criticism and ritual studies.

Scholarly and Creative Work

Recent fight director credits include: La Jolla Playhouse, Peter and the Starcatchers (Roger Rees, Rick Elis and Alex Timbers), Tobacco Road (David Schweitzer); The Old Globe Theatre, Dancing in the Dark, The American Dream, & Kingdom, Old Globe MFA, An Absolute Turkey, Richard III, Marat Sade. He also choreographed the opening fight scenes for the independent film King’s Guard with Eric Roberts and Ron Pearlman. He has performance experience on regional stages such as the Playmaker’s Rep, the Kansas City Rep, and The New Theatre. He is currently working on an article for The Cutting Edge, has interviews published in American Theatre Magazine. He is the recipient of the Pâté Award for Theatre Excellence, The San Diego Critics Circle Award for sound design, is a member of Actor’s Equity Association, and the American Society of Fight Directors.
