About the Department Continued
The strength of the department lies in our faculty. We take pride in the close relationships we build with our students, whether we are collaborating on research or talking in the hallway about everything from Socrates to surfing. We are dedicated teachers who work hard and who challenge our students to work hard. All faculty in the department have been recognized for their excellence in teaching, and four have been awarded the College’s highest teaching honor – The Davies Award for Teaching Excellence.
The department offers exciting opportunities to apply knowledge outside the university walls. Students are encouraged to take Community Service Learning courses, apply for internships all over the country, and to study politics abroad. Through our affiliation with the Washington Center, we offer the opportunity to intern in Washington D.C. with major public-policy making institutions such as the State Department, the Justice Department, and a variety of embassies. No major will graduate without learning the analytic skills that will prepare students to be active and effective citizens.
